Run It Up Reno heads into its final weekend and on Friday, all of the attention was centered around the start of the $600 no-limit hold’em main event. The event carries a $200,000 guaranteed prize pool and it was almost met on Day 1.

There were 313 entries that made their way to the Peppermill for the first of two starting flights. With eight minutes remaining in level 13, the field reached the 20% + 1 player mark and the final 64 players bagged up chips for the night.

They were led by Dylan Hortin, who will be at or near the top of the Day 2 chip counts with 421,900 in chips. Hortin, who just finished runner-up to Adam Owen in the $125 win the button, was just one of the many talented poker players who flocked to Reno for the event.

For those that didn’t make it through the flight, they can take another shot on Saturday at noon for Day 1B. Those that survived the day’s action will come back at noon on Sunday to play down to a winner on Day 2.

On dinner break of the main event, all of the Team RIU streamers held a Q&A session in one of the ballrooms. There was some free food provided by RIU and fans got to interact with some of their favorite streamers.

The $125 NORSE event closed out the day. The HORSE rotation that replaces limit hold’em with no-limit hold’em drew 113 entries and ended with an epic heads-up battle between Derek Gomez and Sarah Sherman.

After a more than two-hour heads-up battle that finished with less than 10 big bets in play, Sherman came out on top and denied Gomez his second trophy of the series. Sherman won her first title just a day after finishing runner-up to Jim Brundige in the $150 six-max pot-limit Omaha bounty event.

Saturday’s schedule features the second and final flight of the $600 no-limit hold’em main event and the first-ever no-limit hold’em short deck tournament in RIU history.
