Casey Jones came to Run It Up Reno to make money. On Wednesday night, she did just that, but not in the way she envisioned when she got to the Peppermill.

The native of New Zealand that now lives and works in Las Vegas came to the series to deal. She has been working all series long but got off of her shift in time to play the $125 all in or fold event. She bested the 122-entry field and defeated Haven Werner heads-up to earn $5,105 after a heads-up deal.

“You know what? I haven’t been playing poker for very long,” said Jones after her win with a huge smile on her face. “Well, actually just cash games less than 18 months probably.”

Jones works in Las Vegas as a poker dealer at Bellagio. That’s how she got into the game. She made the trip from Vegas to Reno for the first time. And like everybody else that’s experienced an RIU event, she is hooked and loves the event.

“It’s my first time here. It’s awesome,” said Jones. “I worked this morning for like five hours then I was like ‘Should I deal the all in event or should I play it?’ And then I was like ‘Alright, let’s play.'”

Jones caught the poker bug from poker pro and vlogger Brad Owen. After busting in 10th, Owen stayed on the rail to support Jones on her way to victory. It was nice of him to support her after she doubled through him earlier in the tournament.

“We were sitting next to each other for a couple of tables and we decided to swap 10 percent. I had king-ten and folded against his shove and then I called against his shove and doubled up early,” said Jones with a laugh.

Owen was all smiles as well. Even though he lost a key pot to her, at least he knows that his chips were put to good use.

“I doubled up through my buddy, but it was worth it. That’s what got us here.”
