
Jimmy Cappucci wins his fourth Run It Up title in the Thursday Thrilla
In the early hours of Friday morning, Jimmy Cappucci took down one of Run It Up Reno’s marquee events, the Thursday Thrilla. He defeated 129 entries and secured $18,680 along with however many $500 bounties he earned along the way.
Winning RIU titles has become second nature for the poker pro from Massachusetts. With his latest victory, he earned his fourth RIU trophy, which gives him most in the young history of Run It Up Reno.
“It’s great that this one is bigger,” joked Cappucci about the size of the trophy. “Nobody is going to catch me now. That’s it. It’s over. It’s done.”
Aside from being one of the most profitable players in series history, he’s also one of the most well-liked. His rail was full of support from rowdy friends that would chant his name in support at just the idea of him picking up the blinds and antes.
The support permeated to everybody at the final table, however. Players were cheering for each other, yelling, screaming, laughing and having a good time, all while battling it out for a five-figure score and a gigantic trophy.
It’s the epitome of what the Run It Up Reno series is all about.
“This is the funnest. It’s great,” said Cappucci. “It’s a $1K. It’s probably one of the hardest $1K’s that runs live. Period. But it’s still just the funnest one, so it doesn’t really matter. I love it. I’m a big fan.”
Cappucci defeated David Lander heads-up, who makes the trek to Reno for nearly every series held at the Peppermill. He’s become a fan favorite among the RIU regulars and they would cheer for “Scandi” whenever he would take down a pot of his own.
