Albert Ng is close to poker’s version of hitting for the cycle. After a win in the $235 Six-Max PLO in the early hours of Sunday morning, Ng now has a win, a second and a third place finish in the Run It Up Reno Spring Series.
He finished third in the $125 Win the Button and second in yesterday’s $125 Six-Max OE. After his close call in yesterday’s OE event, he came back on Saturday evening and defeated 82 entries and won $2,433 in the six-max PLO bounty event.
“It feels good,” said Ng after his win. “This one I had a big chip lead and my strategy was just to, everyone was just playing super tight, and I was just trying to grind them down and get them super short, force them to go all in and hopefully win the flips, you know?”
His strategy worked to perfection. Five-handed play lasted for nearly six-level and about two hours. Most of the table was slowly bleeding off chips while Ng was dragging pot after pot. In four consecutive hands near the end of the 20th level, four players were eliminated and Ng emerged victorious.
He doesn’t plan on ending his success here. He hasn’t played a single hand in the tournament, but will come back for Day 2 of the main event with basically a starting stack. Since he made back-to-back final tables, he registered at the very last minute for the event.
“I was going to fire as many bullets as possible,” said the field applications engineer from San Jose. “I know that I could max late reg the main, so I know if I get knocked out of the PLO, I can hop back into the main and hopefully grind up a stack. Then, when I final tabled it, I told Mike ‘Just get me in.’ I’ll play tomorrow. I think I have 10 big blinds or eight big blinds. I should be good.”
Ng’s first RIU trophy also came in a PLO tournament. In 2016, he won the $85 5-card PLO for $1,911. Of the 82 entries in the field, the top 10 finished in the money. Here is a look at the final table results:
1st: Albert Ng – $2,433
2nd: Adrian Wise – $1,580
3rd: Gail Sarett – $1,080
4th: Mike Lacer – $810
5th: Nick Polydoros – $560
6th: Mark Mazza – $385
