Adam Poulack played his first-ever Run It Up Reno event on Friday night and he made it one to remember.
The local poker dealer and supervisor defeated 96 entries to win $2,600 in the $125 Six-Max OE event in the early hours of Saturday morning. It was the first RIU event he ever played, but it probably won’t be his last.
“So, this is interesting,” said Poulack. “I literally know every single one of these dealers and floor guys because I’m a local and there were like 30 people sweating the Run It Up guys. It’s great. I mean that in a very positive way, that you guys came out strong. I loved that the other table was doing the wave. It was a great atmosphere… I’m happy to be a part of it.”
Poulack defeated Albert Ng heads-up, denying Ng his second Run It Up title, but if Poulack had it his way, he would’ve ended this thing long before they even got to heads-up play. Regardless, he had nothing but positive things to say about Ng’s poker skills.
“I offered a six-way chop just to get out of there immediately,” said Poulack. “And I would’ve high-carded for the trophy. Nobody even blinked, which is to be expected. I definitely ran well for knocking a few people out. And all the credit to [Ng], he played great. He’s a very good player and all the respect to him.”
Knocking ‘a few players out’ is an understatement. At the final table, Poulack knocked out every single person at the table en route to his victory. He knocked out the first four players in just 15 minutes and had a better than 3-to-1 chip lead entering heads-up play with Ng.
That’s when things slowed down. Ng chipped away at his chip lead, but as the limits increased, the stack depth decreased and Poulack ran well when it counted, the final hand of the tournament. Poulack flopped two pair and faded Ng’s pair and nut low draw.
