Patrick Preston earns his second RIU trophy, both in All In or Fold Formats

Patrick Preston won his first Run It Up trophy last October in the $125 All In or Fold partner event. He won his second trophy in the early hours of Tuesday morning in another $125 All In or Fold event.

The local player from Reno defeated a field of 104 entries with 244 rebuys to take home the title and $6,012. He defeated Wes Cutshall heads-up for all of the proverbial marbles. It’s clear by now that this format favors his skill set that he derived from his online background.

“I used to play only hyper turbos,” said Preston. “So, I knew my ICM push/fold situations and I basically just waited until I had hands and could utilize them. I could punish some people because they were short-stacked and I knew they weren’t going to call. It was just some good math.”

Chris Lindner was his partner in their first trophy win. Lindner was on hand to watch him take home a second title. Sort of.

“No, he wasn’t,” said Preston with a hearty laugh. “He was asleep in his room. Every time someone busted, I was like ‘Final table.’ Nothing. Eight people, seven people, six people, five people. ‘Where the hell is he?’ Then, we get to heads-up and I’m like ‘Dude, we are heads-up. Get down here.’ And then he shows up randomly.”

“I saw three hands,” chimed in Lindner.

“He saw me win,” said Preston with another laugh.

Along with the trophy and the first place money, Preston was wearing Run It Up apparel, which secured his victory in every event’s RIU last longer and earned him a free seat into the main event. He planned on playing it anyway, but nobody wants to turn down a free buy-in.

“It just helps me out. A lot,” said Preston.

Preston’s win wraps up the first day of action at the Peppermill. Cards get back in the air tomorrow at noon for the $235 no-limit hold’em bounty event.
