Dwight Ross was already stuck money to the city of Reno before he even set foot in the Peppermill Resort and Casino. He was in a hurry to make the first tournament of the day and got speeding ticket upon entering the city limits.

Luckily for the San Jose native, he’s got plenty of extra cash to pay off those debts. He made it in time to late register and defeated 234 entries on Tuesday night. He earned $6,031 in the $235 no-limit hold’em bounty event and his second career RIU title.

“I got up as early as I could and just started mashing,” said Ross about the drive in. “I made it into Reno and I was like ‘I do got time to make the tournament.’ Then I got into Reno and I was going 85 and the cop blurps me and I was like ‘F***. I’m going to miss the tournament.'”

Even with the slight impediment to his plans, Ross was still running pretty good with his encounter with the law.

“He was hella cool, though,” said Ross about the cop that stopped him. “I told him all that shit. He didn’t let me off, but he gave me a ticket for 70 miles per hour. That’s a win. I don’t got to fight it now. I’ll pay that $135.”

Ross came into the final table as one of the shorter stacks, but battled back three-handed against Ryan Carter and Nick Kiley to take the title. Being short stack is a problem for some, but it’s just another day in the office for Ross.

“It was pretty standard,” said Ross. “I’m usually the short stack. If I make the final table, I’m usually the short stack. I know the struggle, the battle, the grind. Nothing new for me.”

Kiley finished in second and earned $4,050 for his runner-up finish. It’s his second consecutive close call. He finished second yesterday to Camilo Uribe in the $235 no-limit hold’em kickoff.

Along with the first place money, Ross earned an extra $500 in bounties. He scored four knockouts in the first hour and then made a deal with Kiley to keep their bounties heads-up. The top 24 players cashed and here are a look at the results:
