Camilo Uribe Wins $235 No-Limit Hold’em Kickoff Event

Monday started out like a nightmare for Camilo Uribe, but he found a dream ending to a long day with a win in the $235 no-limit hold’em kickoff event at the Run It Up Reno Spring Poker Series.

Uribe’s flight from Los Angeles was scheduled to land around noon, which would give him plenty of time to get over to the Peppermill and register for the first event of the series. His flight was delayed and he was able to get into the tournament with 10 minutes remaining before registration closed.

He busted on the last hand before the break and re-entered. He was the last person to officially enter the tournament. He rode that final bullet all the way to a win, defeating a 209-entry field and taking home $10,726 after defeating Nick Kiley heads-up.

“It’s like a dream,” said Uribe after the tournament. “This is crazy. I’ve been following all these guys, Jason [Somerville] and Kevin [Martin] and all these guys on Twitch for a long time. I was just, I wanted to come visit them and play for the first time. And to win it in the first tournament of the week, it’s fantastic.”

Uribe didn’t get a chance to play with any of the Twitch streamers throughout the first tournament he played, but he’ll have plenty of chances throughout the week to get to play with some of his favorite streamers. Especially now that his travel plans have changed.

The native of Colombia won a seat into the $600 no-limit hold’em main event. He was only planning on staying for a couple days and leaving on Wednesday evening to head back to Los Angeles. Now, he’s going to stay for the duration of the series, play more events and look to secure a few more cashes along the way.

“I own a business [in Los Angeles] and I’ve wanted to come for a while now,” said the real estate developer. “But I was only going to stay for three days… But now I get to play the main event and I’m excited. I’m staying for sure.”

Kiley earned $7,135 for his runner-up finish and local pro Jed Hoffman finished third for $4,870. The top 33 players all finished in the money. Here are a look at the final table results:
